Party like an art student, or like you imagine an art student might do. Pretend games don’t have to be realistic, they just have to be fun.

You are cordially invited to the Pretend Art School’s

Art Department Party!

On Saturday, October 23, the Pretend Art Department is throwing open its doors and inviting the general public to its annual fall party. Pretend Art School is part game, part party, part theater piece. It’s a pretend game, in which all the players pretend to be teachers, and students, and various other people surrounding a fictional university art program.

When you arrive, party hosts will help you choose a character to play and give you an overarching goal to accomplish. Will you be the ex-football player, trying to change your life, you bribed a real artist to create the portfolio that won you a prestigious scholarship, but now that you’re here your grades are hanging by a thread and you desperately need to convince the brainy sculptor you share a studio with not to turn you in? Or perhaps the photography professor who was just offered a photojournalism position with the New York Times, but you’re not sure you’ll take it because you’ve secretly fallen in love with pottery, and you’re thinking of going back for a second BFA in ceramics.

Once everyone has a character, we’ll play several party games. In-character, you’ll make small talk with other players, argue about art, and rush to meet your goals while backstabbing as many rivals as you can. The Art Department Party is better than a real life party because you’ll always know what to do, you’ll always have something to talk about, and social skills are not required.

The party is hosted on Gather.town, which works best in a computer browser.
