Artist Mystic Coworking

“Every day for 20 years, I would say “what am I going to do next?” That’s how I ask for the inspiration. I don’t have any ideas myself. I have a vacant mind, in order to do exactly what the inspiration calls for.”

(Abstract Expressionist artist Agnes Martin, in ‘Beauty is in your Mind’ – TateShots).

Daydreams and Associates presents…

Artist Mystic Coworking

A performance art piece and virtual coworking space inspired by Agnes Martin

Fontaine Félix Leduc is a renowned artist whose huge canvases have been exhibited all over the world. Every day, Leduc sits in silent meditation until inspiration arrives in the form of a visual flash, a mental image that Leduc uses as the basis for their next painting. A recent New Yorke Times profile raved that “entering Leduc’s studio is like emerging from the dungeon that is your life into a meadow filled with wildflowers, where the Rock croons a lullaby, feeds you nourishing soup, and tells you he respects and admires you. You’ll never want to leave.”

Now you have the opportunity to join Leduc in their studio. You will create and play a character who is part of Leduc’s world.

Showtimes – extended until December 9!

How to play

Artist Mystic Coworking is a performance piece and a pretend game that also functions as a fun, weird, alternative to virtual coworking spaces. Finally, you can participate in avant garde performance art while simultaneously answering emails, cooking lunch, making art, meditating, exercising, or doing whatever you like!

Indigo Esmonde will play the role of Leduc. At the beginning of Monday’s performance, Indigo/Leduc will begin meditating, and will continue until they receive inspiration. There’s no way to know if or when inspiration will arrive, or what Indigo/Leduc will be called on to do once it has arrived.

As a participant in Artist Mystic Coworking, you will invent your own character and have full autonomy to decide how your character interacts with Leduc and others in the studio. Begin by thinking about what kind of character you’d like to play, and what work you’d like to do while in the coworking space. For example:

  • If you’ll be answering emails, you might pretend to be Leduc’s agent, who came by the studio to drop off gifts from Leduc’s admirers and is now sending some follow-up emails to a gallery in Dubai.
  • If you plan to do some domestic chores, you could pretend to be one of Leduc’s assistants, whose job is to look after the studio and prepare meals.
  • If you want to make art, you could pretend to be a billionaire playboy who traveled to the studio on your private jet to see if, under Leduc’s influence, you, too, could paint a masterpiece.
  • If you’d like some help creating a character or figuring out how they might act once in the studio, show up 10 minutes before any of the show times, and Indigo will help you.

You can drop in and out of Leduc’s studio at any time during performance hours.
